Membrane vs. Mechanical

All keyboards are not alike; as a matter of fact keyboards generally come in two types, mechanical and membrane. Membrane keyboards come with rubber underneath the keys and provide a much quieter click as you type. Mechanical keyboards come with springs underneath and provide an audible click with each press of the key. What is best depends entirely on preference, some people prefer to hear what they are typing and others prefer the feel of the rubber underneath.

Ergonomic keyboards generally are shaped so that your hands rest in the most natural position. This keyboard is the best choice for people that type for long periods of time or feel pain in the wrists or hands. A main drawback to these keyboards is the loss of desk space because they are generally larger than a standard size keyboard.

The latest technology in keyboards is the multimedia keyboards. These keyboards have keys that are generally placed above the F1-F12 series keys and contain links to web sites as well as CD play, forward skip, backward skip and stop. These keys are very easy to re-program into your own set of links or other functions.
